A 12 vinyl release limited to 1500 copies was available for pre-order on January 10th and quickly sold out. Suspiria Unreleased Material Q&A. Album Art Thom Yorke & Stanley Donwood. At the Venice Film Festival, Thom Yorke likened composing the score for Luca Guadagninos remake of 1977 horror film Suspiria to making spells. Certainly, Yorkes first ever soundtrack summons the darkness of horror, and the terror of blood and evil, over 25 tracks. But Suspiria is not all creepy instrumentals. A handful of tracks stand out, and are among Yorkes best solo work. The Radiohead frontmans debut piece written for the 007 film Spectre was a sparse piano-led ballad, and Suspirium , the first single to be released from this soundtrack, takes that same intimate approach to desolate depths. Review: Thom Yorke Mixes Haunting Instrumentals and Gorgeous Songs on Suspiria. His soundtrack for the remake of a Seventies horror film shows hes still finding new ways to unsettle and delight us. Do you like scary movies Sorry, lets be more specific. Do you like scary movies scored by Radioheads Thom Yorke Well, youre in luck, kid: Dont look now, but theres one right behind you AAAAAAAAHH Yorkes soundtrack for the new remake of the cult-classic Seventies horror flick Suspiria isnt a film score in the way that, say, his bandmate Jonny Greenwoods avant-orchestral opuses for There Will Be Blood and Phantom Thread are film scores. Thom Yorke should do more music scores. And I can't fucking wait for this movie. Luca Guadagnino is proving himself to be one of the best working directors today, and I hope Hollywood. read soundtrack album by Thom Yorke 2018 film score for Suspi. It was released on 26 October 2018 through XL Recordings. Suspiria is Yorke's first feature film score, and incorporates instrumental tracks, interludes, and songs. One track, Suspirium, was nominated for Best Song Written for Visual Media at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards. 1 Background. 2 Writing

  • Orevise
Great press. Not the best album by comparison to the other albums but defiantly worth having and chilling too.
  • Camper
Unfortunately my copy is also a dreadful mess of noise and buzzes.
  • Tekasa
Tote bag and flip book added in the photos? Those are promo items. Not part of the album release. Shouldn't be shown.
  • Nenayally
I'm surprised to read about bad pressings. Mine is just perfect. No noise whatsoever! And the music is just phenomenal.
  • Brazil
I had a copy that had very bad surface noise. Lot's of clicking. Took it back, got another copy and exactly the same. Not what you need especially when the music is mostly quiet(ish). The album in itself is amazing though. Just a shame about the pressing!
  • Hap
Try cleaning it with a good vacuum record cleaner. It will help immensely. It's likely that your local high end audio store has a machine and will clean your records for a fee.
  • Marelyne
Sorry to hear about bad copies, mine is pretty great, without surface noise whatsoever. Anyway, one should be aware that even mint vinyls must be cleaned before first playing, and i mean vacuum-washed with Nitty Gritty type machine for serious results. After almost 30 years of vinyl listening, i discovered that it is the only way to get the best vinyl experience. Best bargain if you're a cost conscious listener or on a budget is the mighty Kab EV-1.
  • Clever
I did make exactly the same experiences. I try to avoid pressings from Optimal or buy after positive experiences with pressings posted here.
  • Mave
I'm sorry but you absolutely should NOT have to clean records like this when they are brand new. I've been buying records for over 30 years too and only in the last 5 years or so has the pressing quality of records in Europe been so low. GZ's records are often filthy and scratched and that's before you get to the pressing defects. Optimal are just as bad. A brand new record, which is dirty and covered with contaminants is indicative of poor quality control. Listen to the records coming out of Sony's pressing plant in Japan-you don't need a wet wipe on any of those beauties. I have heard 3 copies of this LP and the pressing is riddled with clicks even after cleaning. QC across pressing runs is abysmal these days.
  • Kanek
I bought a new shrinkwrapped copy and both inner sleeves have seam splits on the bottom edges AND the beginning of a split on the front jacket gatefold. Just mine or has anyone else experienced this?
  • Unh
My copy is neat, sounds great the only thing is at the end of B1 a rare click.
  • Briciraz
Does anyone else have a copy where both A1 and A2 end abruptly before the last song is over?
  • Delirium
Awful pressing, extremely noisy :( Ruins the mood a lot considering how quiet many parts are :( Tried with my antistatic brush but that didn't help much, I guess I won't really listen to it that often :(
  • Cordann
Wet cleaning with a vacuum record cleaner will help immensely.
  • Fiarynara
i have a lot of distortion on tracks A2,A3 & B2 .... hard time for vinyl fans !is the US version better ?
  • Gaudiker
My copy is fine, almost perfect. The least of vinyl sound a few places, but over all just fine.
  • Zavevidi
Well, the music is fantastic...some of Yorke's best, I fancy. The vinyl pressing is awful. I mean it's listenable in places, but only in places. There is a LOT of noise and a weird distortion throughout most of it (which I assume is not meant to be there). I don't think I will listen to the vinyl again...i just about sat through it this time, but it wasn't easy. This just isn't acceptable...how has this happened? How did someone listen to a test pressing and give it the green light? I thought Optimal were considered pretty reliable, but this is just not on. Maybe it's because it's coloured? I dunno, but I won't be buying another XL record without waiting for release and checking the reviews here first...might just have to listen to this on Thom's favourite Spotify from now on.
  • Ylal
Thanks for the info. I guess it must be that then...I heard a ripping kind of sound in several places, among other problems.
  • Xtintisha
Not sure if this is what you are referring to....but I find a lot of Optimal pressings, moreso on coloured variants, tend to have a lot of no-fill. This causes a ripping sound on playback. Essentially no-fill is when the vinyl cools prematurely before it is able to form the groove adequately.
  • Pad
Up there with Amnesiac, beautiful album. Easily the best solo release by Thom Yorke.
  • Brannylv
Added a US listing - any corrections (or better images) are welcome.Regarding surface noise - my copy had alot of static cling out of the cardboard inner, so it got wet-washed and placed in a mofi sleeve. Static is controlled now and surface noise is reduced. The pops and clicks that were still present (which were pretty annoying in some passages) have significantly been reduced with repeat playings, and it's pretty quiet (and beautiful) now. I've heard of repeat playings sometimes 'polishing out' the pops - that seems to have happened with mine. Give it a shot. It's worth it.
  • Defolosk
I'm on my second copy of this now as first was full of pops and crackles, much like an old record - nothing too distracting but given the excellence of the overall sound quality it was frustrating. The second copy was marginally better but still has a pretty consistent crackle throughout - particularly on side A2. If I'm honest though, I've come to accept that its never going to be perfectly silent (unless you're one of the lucky ones!) and the music itself; the quality of the soundstage - which is wide and open - has drawn me in so much that I can bear the flaws, perhaps now even feel it to be part of this haunting score. And yes, in places this is genuinely disturbing - beautiful but disturbing. Thom Yorke has done a wonderful job. Honestly I get the feeling that this was meant to be heard and experienced in this format and the overall packaging is excellent. I would suggest that if you can tolerate a gentle crackling (like an old haunted LP) that can only be heard in the quietest moments then go ahead and grab yourself a copy. A bit of quality control wouldn't go amiss though.
  • Ytli
noisy pressing. especially at busy vocal passages. cartridge aligned properly.i even want to give it a deep clean in ultrasonic cleaner. those of you who find it quiet, are you listening with headphones or speakers? Speaker might not be sensitive enough to those kind of noises.
  • Went Tyu
Mine is perfect and beautiful. Listening on a Clearaudio Concept MC, Rega Aria, Arcam Amplifier and very good Monitor Audio speakers. I know a noisy pressing when I have one and mine is dead silent. Sorry yours isn’t much cop.
  • Blackredeemer
Could someone (who bought from the US) please create an entry for the US pressing (if it's actually different, as noted below)? It might help in determining if the pressing issues being reported are predominantly coming from one plant or not.
  • Nten
I purchased mine in a US shop as well, and it sounds like garbage. Side A1 also has a visible line running perpendicular to the grooves, from the outer edge to the runout. It's not a scratch, but there's an audible noise with every rotation. I contacted XL to see about a replacement, and even though the scratch and noise are issues from the pressing plant, they told me I'm not their customer, and I should drive the 30 miles back to the shop for a refund. Nice.
  • Nea
mine was bought at US store. noisy background.distortion at busy passages.
  • Freighton
My copy is noisey as fuck! Pre-ordered from the UK from the W.A.S.T.E webstore. Pretty disappointing :(The music sounds amazing, but this pressing does not do it justice. Like another person said... swirling noise on rotations... especially bad in the right channel.
  • Phenade
US copies were not pressed at Optimal, I believe. The matrix runout etchings do not include the Optimal code listed above (BI33115). I cannot find where the US copies were pressed at, but I believe this may be why some have excellent-sounding copies (the Optimal ones) and some don't (the US-pressed copies). Again, this version is listed as a UK and Europe version, not a US version.
  • Hilarious Kangaroo
Actually, Optimal has been one of the worst pressing plants recently, so I'm assuming the records pressed in the US are where most of the positive comments are coming from. Bought mine from a local shop in Colorado.
Sounds great! Very little surface noise and the pressing sounds really clear. Happy with this version.
  • FreandlyMan
Unmitigated, enthralling brilliance...ai yi yi yi yi! (Shiver, shiver, swoon)
  • Samugul
Happy to report another copy that sounds great, with impressive sonics, an open soundstage, and no intrusive surface noise/imperfections. Also, an absolutely gorgeous score and some of Thom’s best work.
  • Umi
Mine sounds wonderful, warm and clear with few pops and crackles.
  • Vetalol
there's no download included, right? (five more words needed, yeah)
  • Hawk Flying
Yeah. Pretty disappointed about that. All other XL records I've bought came with one. This record wasn't cheap and, these days, not including a download code just seems shortsighted (especially because I also like to listen to my music on the go and I have yet to turn into this guy --> https://i.pinimg.com/474x/57/8a/87/578a87dc4f9147f9bf1b4f4566abae91--hipster-things-funny-things.jpg ).I've tried contacting XL about this, but can't find a direct email address. I've sent them a message via their Facebook page, but no reply so far. I see other people have complained about the same via Twitter and FB, but XL haven't replied.
  • Simple fellow
Yeah, mine didn't have a download either. Not that it's a huge deal but it seems a little unusual.
  • funike
It appears not, not on really when Vinyl costs the earth
  • Windbearer
Beautiful record. Yorke did an amazing job. My vinyl sounded great...unfortunately XL gave me two copies of album A no album B.
  • Felolv
Only played once through so far, and really like it. Very atmospheric and when the singing or rhythms come in it is quite startling. Very nice. Beautifully presented packaging and lovely coloured vinyl. Immaculate copy - no hiss, clicks or pops. Proud to own this alongside Tomorrow's Modern Boxes which also sounds superb
  • fightnight
So the select few that have copies that are actually listenable...can i ask where you purchased from? Worth sharing for any other Yorke fans that don't want to suffer the same fate as us less fortunate mortals! How could XL get it so wrong? Their repress of tomorrows boxes i bought was a beautiful pressing. Silent, wide soundstage...the polar opposite of this pressing.
  • monotronik
Kinda embarrassed to say I got it from Target. Sounds fantastic. Sorry to hear so many bad pressings are out there.
  • Mopimicr
Bought mine at the local record shop where I live and it sounds beautiful. Dynamic, perfectly quiet with not clicks, pops or channel noise
  • Mavegelv
It's quite embarrassing that this was released sounding the way it does. I buy quite a lot of records and the last time I remember anything sounding this horrible was the last Radiohead album. I went through 3 copies that time and eventually gave up. I love the noise of pops and crackles which is one of the reasons I love the format so much. There is a difference though between pops and crackles (from usage and imperfections, it is vinyl after all) and loud swooshing noises, louder than the recorded music that happen with each rotation of the record. The first record of Suspiria sounds fine with slight pops and is totally enjoyable. The second record is totally unlistenable. Either someone hates Thom Yorke at the pressing plant or they're pressing way too many of these. I'll return my copy and stick to the Spotify version.
  • Bludworm
This!! And i also had every copy of A Moon Shaped Pool on vinyl, gave up and sold them. Just like Susperia, the pressing doesn't sound dynamic, has lots of surface noise and keeps distorting in the higher freq and during busy passages. The new ANIMA album is done a bit better, but still nowhere near their earlier albums in terms of quality control.
  • Coiron
Some light pops and crackles on side four but not bothersome to me, sounds prisine otherwise.
  • Cerar
My copy is gorgeous. A lovely work of art. Recommended.
  • Ffel
Mine too. Perfectly quiet like such a record needs to be
  • salivan
First LP of my copy is slightly warped. Otherwise no surface noise and sounds pretty good.
  • Anazan
My copy is an absolutle state also no matter how many cleans i give it. Sounds like a 40yr old copy! Looks like i will have to pick up on cd just to be able to appraise the music. Gutted. Great artwork though...
  • Qumen
Sounds incredible, my copy is dead silent. Unfortunate that some got bad copies.
  • Still In Mind
The pressing & sound is rubbish. Sound is so week & there are some cyclic noises. Now, vinyl is so popular that the label or music company thinks all it has to do is make & sell vinyls, & forget the quality... So sad.
  • Ice_One_Guys
This is sad. I'm getting fed up with forking out on new vinyl and it being sub-standard quality...Took a pop on this earlier and ordered from Bleep as I was convinced that it would be okay...Bugger.
  • Xangeo
Not played the vinyl yet but not impressed by the lack of even mp3 codes before I do.
  • Andromathris
Excellent Thom York album, I really enjoy listening to it in a loop
  • Alsalar
It's there but I think you will get the same divisive opinions on the pressing quality of this record. Maybe a clean will help but I think many of the defects like non fill and other marks cannot be erased. Saying that I really like the record and am glad I opted for the vinyl version.
  • CrazyDemon
Thank you! I definitely expect some surface noise but just wanted to make sure we didn't have a repeat of the last Radiohead album (which was pop and crackle alllll over). Thanks! Picking it up today.
  • The Sinners from Mitar
Yes there is surface noise. It's vinyl. Nothing that got in the way with the music. Still sounds amazing.
  • Yayrel
How’s the pressing and sound quality? Any pops and crackles or surface noise?
