American Songbook II - Phil Woods. Лента с персональными рекомендациями и музыкальными новинками, радио, подборки на любой вкус, удобное управление своей коллекцией. Phil Woods, the great American saxophonist, has been featured in more diverse settings than almost anyone in the history of the music. His constant challenging of himself as a player, bandleader, and composer has been admirable since his debut set as a leader. While standards sets these days are not only a dime a dozen but mostly cop-outs from established artists and newcomers who either lost or never had the chops to execute them with any aesthetic imprint, let alone the one they deserve, septuagenarian Woods breathes life into ten of these tunes, and reinvents them both as harmonic structure. Phil Woods - Everytime We Sa. There are no knotty original compositions or tricky rhythms here though this group thrives on such material. The quintet is tight and sympathetic, having played together for a long time. Pianist Bill Charlap acts as a quiet foil for the heat of the two front-line players and it's this variety within the group which makes the Phil Woods Quintet such a satisfying group to hear. Surpsingly this is the first time that Phil Woods has made an album of standards though he's not averse to playing other people's tunes, he's tended to go for the more obscure gems rather than the selection of old chestnuts we find here. He's accompanied by his trusty quintet, two of whom have been with Woods for over thirty yearsnew boy pianist Bill Charlap has already served for over ten. As you can imagine, this is a band that's pretty much played in and their warm, relaxed interplay is apparent from the opening bars of A Foggy Day
