Album

The Burning World is the sixth studio album by American experimental rock band Swans. It was released in 1989, through record label Uni Records the band's only major label release. Co-produced by Bill Laswell and band leader Michael Gira, the album features a major stylistic shift from their past releases, being very tuneful and accessible compared to the bleak, industrialized sound from their past records. It received a mixed reception and was a commercial disappointment the band was dropped off. I do not own any of the copyrights of the music or the pictures used in this video. The River that Runs with Love Won't Run Dry 2. Let it Come Down - The Burning World review: Even if it's a departure from Swans' traditional sound, The Burning World stands as one of the strongest releases in their discography. And no album in their discography has been more controversial than their 1989 effort, The Burning World. In 1988, the band was offered a major label deal by UniMCA Records after their cover of Joy Divisions Love Will Tear Us Apart gained significant airplay on college radio stations. Produced by Bill Laswell, The Burning World was a departure from the sound that Swans had spent the past decade building on. The Burning World was originally released in 1989 and marks the first and last major label record for Michael Gira's Swans. The album was produced by Bill Laswell, a pairing that Gira claims was not a good fit and was forced upon him by the label. Despite Gira's own distaste for the record, its reputation has grown over the years and is now considered a fine effort from one of the most important and longest lasting New York post-punk groups. Ultimately Burning sounds more like a compromised major label Laswell project than a Swans album, to its overall detriment. To be sure, Gira's complex, increasingly mythic and mystical lyrical images still retain their power, while his singing and Jarboe's still each have their own, often gripping appeal. The Burning World is ranked 13,155th in the overall chart, 1,901st in the 1980s, and 191st in the year 1989. The Burning World by Swans Year: 1989 Overall rank: 13,155th.
