On Stage is a double live album originally released by the British hard rock band Rainbow in 1977. It was recorded live over several German and Japanese dates in late 1976 during the Rising world tour. The recording features the customary introduction to a Rainbow show the classic quote from The Wizard of Oz, Toto: I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore. We must be over the rainbow with the last word repeated as an echo, then the actual band plays a musical phrase from the song Over the. On Stage - Rainbow. Breaking with '70s heavy metal tradition by releasing a live album after only two studio efforts you're supposed to have three before the live one, Rainbow served up this double platter in 1977. On Stage is full of great songs and playing, but somehow it lacks some of the excitement that existed at those early Ritchie Blackmore concerts. The production is just kind of flat. Brown Album is the 5th studio album by PRIMUS. It was released on July 8, 1997. Happy 23rd anniversary English UK Русский Українська Suomi Español. Privacy Terms Advertising AdChoices Cookies . Album review: Captured from various performances on the 1976 Rainbow world tour, Rainbow On Stage showcases the power and improvisation displayed by Rainbows line up. Not content with merely replicating the original recorded work, Blackmore would extend many numbers into lengthy guitar showcases lasting up to 20 minutes on some occasions. I wanted to review another Dio-era Rainbow album and it seems like this is the only one on the site yet to be done. On Stage is the first of two live albums Rainbow did in the 70's, the other being Live in Germany. It's hard to say which one is better, as Live in Germany does have more songs including the epic Stargazer. This album just feels like it has more energy to me, though. The biggest problem I have with the Rainbow live albums is that their set lists aren't really that great. For one, compared to most other bands' live shows it's very short. They only play 6. Taking the best available versions the producers fashioned a brilliant album from one of the best ever live bands. The strict structure that vinyl forced the producers to adhere to, 4 sides of 15-23 minutes and the fact that most tracks were about 15 minutes long must have forced some difficult decisions
