Written by drummer Jurgen Rosenthal, the lyrics relate to Greek mythology, combining the tale of Poseidon and the myth of Atlantis. Man lost the paradise on Earth that was Atlantis because of his violent nature - an obvious metaphor of the nuclear menace that was still very much alive in 1977. Eloy's Ocean, with one of the most recognizable gatefold covers of the decade, is a good representation of the latter. Though their early albums were standard slabs of progressive rock, Eloy's songwriting capabilities grew with each lineup change and album. Ocean by ELOY, the German progressive rock band, is a pinnacle of progressive rock music. In my opinion it is a perfect 10 if there was ever one. It has some of the most amazing and enjoyable drum work that you will ever hear.
