The album is a little more expansive than their first two but more cohesive than their previous album Living the Blues. The band mainly stick to what they do best, their own fun, loose, earnest but amplified take on the blues. The album includes a cover of Tommy Johnson's Canned Heat Blues from which they take their name, and Fats Domino's Fat Man, other than that the songs are all originals
