Biosphere - Times When I Know You'll Be Sad. Substrata is the third studio album by Norwegian electronic musician Geir Jenssen under the stage name Biosphere, released in 1997 by All Saints Records. Silene 12. It is considered to be a classic ambient album, consistently in the top 5 in surveys on the Hyperreal ambient mailing list. Substrata is an ambient music album by Biosphere, released in 1997 by All Saints Records. Occasionally interspersed with other records, Biosphere's Substrata was my go-to album for this occasion for the longest time. 2017 dance. Исполнитель: Biosphere. This album easily matches the best ambient from giants like Steve Roach, and in many respects, I think this album does Roach one better. It is Biosphere's first truly ambient album, and has a theme of cold, of mountains and glaciers, and of running water. To favorites 11 Download album. Biosphere - Antennaria. Substrata 2. Sounds of howling wind and creaking wood, although infrequently employed, create a chilling soundscape interrupted by sonorous but quietly suspenseful music. Antennaria 9. Die CD fängt die Kälte, Einsamkeit und vor allem die Schönheit der nordischen Natur perfekt ein. Es ist ein Wundermittel um abzuschalten um sich in dieser kristallklaren Kälte zu entspannen. The layered quality of this album is pretty amazing, with both synthetic and natural sounds interwoven again and again into an aural tapestry that can only be described as desperately haunting. guys ! crunch new copyis it all with the 2011 remaster?
  • Kelerius
Does anyone know the difference between the 2011 and the 2018 reprints? I notice on the bandcamp that they are sold from states 2011.
  • Vetitc
Re: 2018 reprint. Side C and D were recut because the original lacquers were damaged.
  • Maridor
The sound quality in my copy is outstanding, clean and virtually noiseless. The pressing and mastering seem to have been excellent given the fact that the music has extremely smooth transients and no noise disturbs the listening. Continuously cut the record is extremely enjoyable. Highly recommended.
  • Silver Globol
stands the test of time and still one of the best ambient albums ever made. so many memories attached to this.
  • iSlate
Copies still available at Juno, for anyone in the UK this is by far the cheapest it's available for online. https://www.juno.co.uk/products/biosphere-substrata/442234-01/
  • Samulkree
Clicked this link today out of curiosity and there are still copies in stock. You're a champ
  • Painbrand
all three of my copies are cut and pressed flawlessly, zero noise, no pops, no crackle, a bit like the mid 1994 Cro2 tape with the bonus of dolby B (which was unnecessary for actual BASF chromedioxide anyway ;) we ve sold about 20 copies (taken from 3 different batches) of this and everybody was stunned by the signal to noise ratio, and it's hard to imagine a material that is more demanding than low-mid driven ambiences. get your facts straight, it's not the pressing plant that is responsible for your problems, it's obviously a matter of the final product mishandling.
  • FEISKO
Saw these comments after ordering a copy, I hope I get lucky
  • Blackredeemer
Less surface noise than most new vinyl I buy, I would say my 2017 pressing is very good. Very centered pressing too.
  • Mallador
Very crackly, Side C has a really nasty pop, and Side D is unlistenable. The packaging and music itself is great though.
  • zmejka
I bought late repress (January'17) expecting a superior ambient sound but once I put vinyls on turntable, I find myself saddened. Some turbulence and annoying noise (due, in part, to a scratch in side A of my copy) in every of the four sides, regardless how clean the surface was. I wrote my webshop to comment these issues and they have contacted the distributor in the same way. Let's see if they give a proper response...
  • Gaudiker
i have the same problems!(( bought on JUno UK

?!! See my comment below, the exact same thing!!Biosphere - Substrata — zevulon April 13, 2016Comment#2 Got a second copy from the shop - no scratch, and, there are no disturbances at all! Guess it isn't the whole batch that has been compromised, but my first copy was really, really bad - not just the factorty/packaging scratch (the record was sealed, so it must have happened during production)-zevulonBiosphere - Substrata — zevulon March 15, 2016 Comment#1Mine has extensive disturbances, the kind you usually hear when the (..never made a vinyl myself) cut/mother hasn't been bathed/produced properly. Subtle, but ALL THE TIME! This is very common these days with no quality check to bother ( >> Nathan Fake - Steam Days ).On my copy it is every now and then for the full A and B side. AND! To make things worse, there was a big deep 1 cm scratch on the A side!I didn't even bother about the second disc.Ps. The Nathan Fake release seems to be ALL copies, so, yeah, vinyl is a volatile business these days. Glad we both got good copies in the end!!
  • Damdyagab
Finally I got the replacement copy and now the defect was gone and the the sound is pretty quiet, maybe not perfect but so good and fully enjoyable indeed. Very happy with the excellent service provided by the Boomkat guys (and with the further understanding of the label itself).
  • komandante
You can still buy it here: https://biosphere.bandcamp.com/album/substrata-with-bonus-album"shipping out on or around January 20, 2017"
  • Zulurr
Average release. I dont understand all the hype on here. Quality pressing but nothing special with the production.
  • Moogura
How is the pressing of the 2015 re-issue? Surface noises? Sound quality? Thank you!
  • Fordrelis

Mines clean. I plan to keep it that way ????????????
  • Delari
In my opinion could be better. Sound is shallow, but it is only my opinion. Ive never heard first pressing.
  • Reddefender
Outstanding music gets the mastering it deserves. The continuous mix makes for a perfectly smooth vinyl. Essential.
  • Nawenadet
Possibly the best ambient album ever released. Powerful music. Timeless, beautiful and evocative.
  • Nettale
Fantastic album!
  • Kajishakar
YES, a reissue!
  • Bine

  • HeonIc
Thank you for letting me know. I´ve just ordered the vinyl version. One of my long time listening companion albums and I´ve been trying to resist buying the vinyl version for ages and occasionally look here to see if I can still resist buying one.

Perfect.Laika - the beautiful reinforcement to this masterpiece. Geir reveals his passion for russian air travellers again, taking the dialogues of jet-pilots. Translation : "2-30 awaiting instructions... keeping it left... roger that, roger that.. guys, hello, its Orlov, one more time, one more time... once again, hello there... 32 seconds, flight OK... Igor, watch this... right, how many minutes we've got left? -27; well that's it. thats it over here.. HELLO,-good afternoon... thank you... "
  • Kuve
Wow! Can somebody please tell me the thickness of the 2xLP? Substrata is one of my absolute most played albums ever and I want to put it on my wall. Just want to make sure it fits the frame.
  • Maldarbaq
Substrata is HUGE dude. Amazing girth.
  • Faebei
Having Substrata on vinyl FINALLY...is a dream come true. Sides C /D do have some distracting noise, unfortunately. It's tough to press ambient music on vinyl without noticeable vinyl noise. Quiet music. The vinyl for N-Plants seemed to have less noise.I do appreciate this was released as a 2x12". Cirque needs a better 2x12" pressing as well.
  • Adoranin
Great vinyl! I love the new artwork. Perfect for Biosphere fans and collectors. It's nice to have a signed copy!If you're a Biosphere fan, don't hesitate, just buy it.Support the artist and buy it on discogs from Geir Jenssen himself or the Biosphere website.
  • Rias
After listening to the CD for years and the way it flows I find the vinyl a bit disappointing. Also I found the vinyl to be a bit crackly.
  • Fordrellador
Mistakes have been made. For some though the hiss of tape or crackle of vinyl is part of the charmand the 'clean' sound of CD is soulless to some.
  • Jelar
What a stupid point. Vinyl doesn't have to be crackly if its well pressed and looked after. My first copy wasn't great. The label sent me another copy and it plays beautifully with no crackles....
  • Wizer
duh its vinyl of course its gonna be crackly.
  • Zugar
Just got a brand new turntable and this was one of the first pieces I put on it. Like you say - very crackly. I've spent ages re-adjusting the turntable level, checking weight and tracking - even zapped it with an anti-static gun. Still crackly.........! Lovely music - just a bit disappointed.I should've added sometime ago..... The label very kindly sent me another copy, no questions asked. Plays beautifully - truly amazing music. Great customer service too. Thanks.....
  • Juce
Absolutley stunning! Great! Im a big fan of Biosphere(Geir Jenssen) So its great to have a signed copy.I love the bonus track Laika! This should have been given out much earlier.Over the years i have missed a vinly version of Substrata. Its pretty cool that Geir has given this out on his own label.Support the artist and buy it from him(or his website).
  • Konetav
This is a phenomenal pressing. This should have been pressed on vinyl years ago, but I'm happy to have it in my collection now. Simply brilliant.
