3001: The Final Odyssey is a 1997 science fiction novel by British writer Arthur C. It is the fourth and final book in Clarke's Space Odyssey series. The novel begins with a brief prologue describing the bioforms - dubbed the First-Born - who created the black monoliths. They evolved from primordial soup, and over the course of millions of years, became a space-faring species. Perceiving that nothing was more precious than mind, they catalysed the evolution of intelligent species wherever. 3001: The Final Odyssey is ultimately a flawed book, written to end a series which has sadly become increasingly redundant. Sad Yes, because Arthur C. Clarke was a phenomenally good scientist with a lively imagination and the ability to craft very readable novels. 3001 is the 4th and final volume in Arthur C. Clarkes Odyssey series, starting with 2001. The other 2 books are 201o - Odyssey 2 and 2061 - Odyssey 3. I have to admit to not having read the middle 2 books, but since Arthur C. 3001: The Final Odyssey is ultimately a flawed book, written to end a series which has sadly become. Syfy has put in development 3001: The Final Odyssey, a miniseries based on the fourth and final Odyssey book. The deal comes on the heels of Syfy recently greenlighting a miniseries adaptation of another Clarke classic, Childhoods End. Clarkes Odyssey series spanned over 30 years, with the initial publication of 2001 in 1968, and the final 3001 in 1997. The opening book was immortalized by Kubricks 1968 feature. The second book, 2010: Odyssey Two, was the only other of the novels in the series to be brought to the screen as a 1984 movie directed by Peter Hyams. So this Final Odyssey has discarded many of the elements of its precursors, but developed others and I hope more important ones in much greater detail. And if any readers of the earlier books feel disorientated by such transmutations, I hope I can dissuade them from sending me angry letters of denunciation by adapting one of the more endearing remarks of a certain US President: 'It's fiction, stupid'. Whether our descendants can achieve that goal will be the greatest challenge of the future. Indeed, it may well decide whether we have any future. Colombo, Sri Lanka. 19 September 1996. Clarke brings the greatest and most successful science fiction series of all time to its magnificent, stunningly unforeseen conclusion. As we hurtle toward the new millennium in real time, Clarke brilliantly, daringly leaps one thousand years into the future to reveal a truth we are only now capable of comprehending.
