But such confusion would be understandable after hearing Omnis, the hauntingly beautiful new album by Anúna. Some of the works on Omnis feature the actual music of centuries past. Some of the works feature the texts of ancient prayers and poems, but with medieval-like music composed by Anúna founder Michael McGlynn perhaps reconstructed and re-imagined is a better way to describe McGlynns approach. Anúna is a choral ensemble based in Ireland. Founded in 1987 by Irish composer Michael McGlynn under the name An Uaithne, taking the current name in 1991, and in 2010 becoming Anúna, Ireland's National Choir, the group has recorded 17 albums, and achieved a high level of international success, including a significant role in Riverdance from 1994 to 1996. Almost all of their repertoire is composed or arranged. The album Anúna achieved a Billboard World Music chart placing at number 11 in 1995. Riverdance and the 1990s.
